While it was a difficult task to choose from the many talented and gifted applicants, this recipient is a standout for both her intellectual prowess and the breadth of her commitment to law, the legal field and to her community. She exemplifies the heart, grit and work ethic that Willinger, Willinger & Bucci, P.C. promotes.
Our recipient, Ella Sturgís is currently enrolled at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, where she is focusing her studies on Political Science preparatory to ultimately attending law school. The desire to be involved in law is not a recent development for Ella. Her background reflects a strong interest in and participation in various aspects of the law, inclusive of all aspects of law enforcement.
In discussing her interest in obtaining the scholarship, Ms. Sturgis set out in detail the various awards, academic achievements and accomplishments that support her application; all were impressive. The most compelling argument in support of Ella’s application, however, is her history of a consistent dedication to her volunteer work and her commitment to being a part of the process for change in her local community. From her participation in her local police department’s Explorer Program and the Young Adult Police Commission to her engagement with the public through her assistance with the local food bank, Ella exemplifies excellence in all aspects of her personal and scholastic life. Ultimately, Ella is most proud of her community service activities working to enhance positive exchanges between the local population and community police officers.
